This speaker wire does consist of seemingly nice copper. To say that it's 12 gauge seems to be quite a stretch. I would put it somewhere around a 14 gauge and even then it's on the thin side for it. Everything sounds solid though with the wire so I can't be overly mad with it. Just don't expect a very thick copper filled wire.

This wire is not 12 AWG which is why they carefully sidestep around using the AWG term and use "Gauge" instead. To be precise, this is 51 strands of 32 AWG wire, which comes out to a cross sectional area of almost precisely a 15 AWG solid wire (if you were to twist both conductors together into one wire, you would have very close to 12 AWG which is how they could justify the inflated number). They use the typical con of using a very thick clear insulation which makes the wire look much bigger and also acts as a magnifier of the internal copper when viewed from the side. So basically this wire is worse than a decent 14 AWG and is harder to run than 14 because it is so unnecessarily thick. If a stranded wire doesn't mention the actual AWG and strand count, don't buy it because they will short change you.

I restate: the price is right, the quality is great. I had a little issue with the banana clips I used because the insulation was a little too thick but nothing a little common sense couldn't handle.
