This is a simple 5-minute DIY project that the dealer really wants to charge you to do since it is easy!
I used TYC before for cabin air filters and was glad to see they had one for my 2010 Subaru Forester X.
The dealer charges $30 for the filter and 1/4 hour of labor @ $99/hr -- this can be installed by anyone in under five minutes if you read the instructions. The filter is behind the glove box, you just need to open the glove box, unclip the retaining arm (that keeps the box from dumping the contents on the floor), drop it down by squeezing the inside tabs (this does take a bit of force to do), remove the old filter, insert the new filter, push the glove-box back up into its place (again, a bit of force is needed as the retaining clips on the glove box are plastic tabs molded into the box) and the re-attach the retaining arm.
The location/procedure for these cabin air filters is getting pretty standard; on older cars you almost had to remove the dashboard to do it -- now the manufacturers have gotten better at placing oft-replaced items in accessible locations.
